Over the course of my studies in the humanities, I have been exposed to the Last Supper numerous times and in various interpretations. Yet I cannot say that I ever looked at it and asked myself, “Hmm, just how much food they are consuming, exactly?”
These creative researchers did.
By comparing the meal size to the average size of the human heads in the painting, these gentlemen determined that, over the last millennium, the ratio of this main course entree has generally increased by 69.2%, the ratio of the size of bread has increased by 23.1%, and that of the size of plate by 65.6%.
And we all say that super-sized meals are a modern phenomenon…
