Grocery run

20 Jun

The LGRAB Summer Games continue! Today was a lovely day, and our fridge was looking quite empty, so I decided to take Carmen out on a quick grocery run. Our destination? Whole Foods, of course.

As noted by Slow Bike Madison, “there’s a dearth of slow biking in Madison, which is a shame. Madison is full of bikes, but most seem to be either hyperathletic models or fixies.” A Dutch-style bike like my Carmen is a rare sight (though I did see a white Electra Amsterdam last week). Not surprisingly, she attracts some attention. As I pulled up to the bike racks, a gentleman leaving the store complimented me on my ride. As I was about to walk through the doors, a young woman walked up to me and asked where I got my basket (Nantucket Bike Baskets). Moral of the story: riding a Dutch-style bike in Madison (or anywhere in the U.S., for that matter) is not for the shy.

Loaded in the front and the back.

The basket was large enough to hold a bottle of wine, a bottle of sparkling water, a bottle of kefir, hummus, salsa, apples, and asparagus, as well as my bike lock and my purse (not pictured).

The pita chips, tortilla chips, granola, and cereal bars, not being fragile, were the perfect load for the rear rack. The bungee cords did not let me down!
